Did you apply for a job with the Malaysian civil service?

Came across this rather interesting news :

Govt may extend compulsory public service for doctors, where it said there were 'a total of 7,785,262 applications were received and 358,366 people were called for interview but only 199,660 turned up for the interviews' when the government wanted to hire 50,000 new employees.

According to this demographic report, the number of Malaysians in the whole country aged between 15-64 as of July 2009 was male 8,210,373/female 8,143,043. And lets say 40% is still too young to start work, that would means there were just about 10,000,000 Malaysians in the age group that would be eligible to be a civil servant.

Would it be correct then to say, there were 7,785,262 applicants out of a total of 10,000,000 Malaysians who applied to be a civil servant??

Were you 1 of the 7 millions??

Apparently, the Information Communication and Culture Ministry conducted a survey recently where 14 millions mobile users were asked via SMS whether they understood the concept of 1Malaysia.

And apparently, there were 7 millions respondents, with 60% replying they understood the meaning of 1Malaysia.

I would like to ask: do you know of anyone who received this SMS?

Lets look at this mathematically:

- 14 millions mobile phone users out of a population of about 28 (?) million. This would really means 1 in 2 persons would have received this SMS. Out of this 14 millions users, 7 millions responded. Therefore, 1 in 4 person responded.

I would like to ask again:

- do you know of anyone who received this SMS?
- do you know of anyone who responded?
- do you know of anyone who understands 1Malaysia?
- do you know of anyone who believes 1Malaysia?

Will things get better?

Events last week saw a new low in Malaysia; for the first time ever, Malaysians witnessed happenings normally associated with Indonesia, Pakistan or some other countries.

Burning of places of worship no longer happen in Indonesia; but Malaysia seems to have 'imported' the idea and is certainly keen to promote the practice!

Words and actions from our leaders, the power that be, certainly do not help to defuse the situation.

How on earth can a presiding Prime Minister said 'the government is powerless' when dealing with potential demonstrators? How can the prime Minister of the day said such a remark? it is akin to stating that 'please go ahead and do your worst; there is nothing the government will do to stop you'.

Will there be more incidents? Will there be more intolerance? Will there be more attacks?

What seems to be quite clear is that the Government of Malaysia seems to be promoting a new brand of Islam where only Muslims can use the word 'Allah'. This practice is apparently different in the Middle East, Indonesia, Africa, and likely every other countries in the world! Are Muslims in Malaysia different..?

I strongly believe 'Allah' does not mind at all who calls on him; as long as the name is not used in vain, used in profanities, or abused. I certainly believe God does not need humankind to fight for him; God's name must never be used in vain, abused or profaned.

The coming days and weeks will see changes in Malaysia. What is certain is that the exodus of the capable citizens in the country will accelerate....

YB DatuK Seri Dr. Khir Toyo....

Perhaps of all elected YBs in Malaysia, this person must be the most out of touch (or is it untouchables??) of all.

His statement on the recent High Court ruling allowing non Muslims to use the word 'Allah' is so totally out of sync it boggles the mind.

Here is this person, who has lost the state of Selangor (in a rather big way too!!) trying to sound like a parochial/communal champion again. Datuk Seri still does not get it. The people of Selangor looks at more than just religion or race. There is demand for justice and equality for all, regardless of race and religion.

Perhaps Datuk Seri should examine his own self first. If one were to ask any adult in Selangor what they would like to happen in this state, I am sure it would be to see Datuk Seri explain how he was able to afford his multi million mansion, his expensive jaunts, his many yet to be explained misadventures. Perhaps Datuk Seri should explain those issues first before exposing himself to more ridicule.

Having said all this, the Home Minister has already said the government will be appealing to the Court of Appeals over the judgment by the High Court. Going by past trends, the CoA will surely overturn the ruling by the HC!!

Malaysia is now the laughing stock of the world; Malaysia is the only place in the world where a generic word can be 'patented' to a particular religion....
