Snowmobiling in Minnesota

After some horrendous encounters with the US Immigration at LAX, we continue our journey to Minneapolis at just after 1AM. The flight was pretty uneventful except that I was seated between two rather large ladies!!

Hertz gave us a midsize SUV instead of the pre booked car. It was a 2008 Ford Escape, and it is certainly more refined than the one i had a few years ago.

We got in to Polaris round about 830AM, very early indeed.

Our customer was really very kind to arrange snowmobiles for us to try. And it was fun...

We had to suit up or else with our normal clothes, we probably would have freeze.

saw this sign...i think it not be so easy to park a motorcycle here!!

All suited up for the ride..

what a ride... I tried doing figure of eight between some flagpoles.

Happy Birthday Josie

For many months before her birthday on 13th Feb, the younger girl has been badgering, pleading, threatening, and all kind of other ways to try to get her mum to buy her a Gameboy, one of those hand held computer game console.

The wife did some serious shopping and eventually did purchase a pink color Gameboy without Josie 's knowing about this. It was suppose to be a surprise.

The night before her birthday, during dinner, Josie went on and on about her wish to have her birthday gift. The mum, feeling a bit naughty, told her she was going to get a coloring book and some coloring pencils instead. The elder sister joined in and started laughing.

When the mummy told her she was going to get coloring book and pencils for her birthday..!!

When she found out that she was getting a Gameboy after all!!

E200 Kompressor T

After spending a total of exactly 27 days collecting nothing but dust at the Mercedes workshop, i have got back the car after paying a bill of RM6106.75.

The car was towed since driving it would have created more stress on the engine which had only three firing cylinders. The whole Engine Control unit was changed.

I wrote twice to the Daimler AG website complaining why it should take 10 to 15 days for a replacement part to arrive from Germany to Malaysia. Would the 200cm, 100kg German waits for 10 days to get back his car??

I dont think so.

If that is the case, why should not Mercedes strive to do the same in Malaysia or wherever they sell their cars? Or is the situation in Malaysia unique because Malaysians are easier to control??

Bombed out fishing trip

No, the fishing area was not bombed, but our great fishing trip to the so called 'Russian Wreck' off Pinang Island was a total 'bombed out'.

There were a total of 9 persons on board, two crew members and 7 eager and long suffered anglers hoping to land a big one. Hopes and expectations were at an all time high since we have heard many stories of catches at that area.

BUT, all the excitement fizzled out within the first hour when there was absolutely no bite at all. During the course of the night, there were more than 10 reels with juicy baits in the water all waiting for the elusive fish. And we waited and waited. Till the next morning in fact, there was still zero bite.

This has got to be the worst ever fishing trip for many of us. It is very unusual for a fishing trip where no one on board registered absolutely no bite at all. This has got to be record of sort.

There are questions to be asked:

- wrong timing?
- wrong bait?
- wrong techniques?
- what went wrong????

Anyway, we had fun..

Busy preparing the rigs at the start of the journey from Teluk Bahang Jetty

This macho fellow is turning 80 years old in about 2 weeks time!!

Posing with the setting sun in the distant horizon

evening setting sun..

The boat captian caught three of this type of fish.. big eye trevally.

AND, lastly, welcome on board Thomas K, who joined us for the first time and endured the night without catching anything. We will certainly keep you informed of the next trip.

Smart Girl story with a lesson to learn.

Many years ago in a small Indian village,

A farmer had the misfortune Of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender.

The Moneylender , who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer's beautiful Daughter. So he proposed a bargain.

He said he would forgo the farmer's debt if he could marry his Daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the Proposal.

So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let Providence decide the matter.

He told them that he would put a black Pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would Have to pick one pebble from the bag.

1) If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven.

2) If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven.

3) But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into Jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer's field. As They talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he Picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two Black pebbles and put them into the bag.

He then asked the girl to pick A pebble from the bag.

Now, imagine that you were standing in the field. What would you have Done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you Have told her?

Careful analysis would produce three possibilities:

1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.

2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag And expose the money-lender as a cheat.

3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order To save her father from his debt and imprisonment.

Take a moment to ponder over the story. The above story is used with The hope that it will make us appreciate the difference between lateral And logical thinking.

The girl's dilemma cannot be solved with Traditional logical thinking. Think of the consequences if she chooses

The above logical answers.

What would you recommend to the Girl to do?

Well, here is what she did ....

The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble. Without Looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path Where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.

"Oh, how clumsy of me," she said. "But never mind, if you look into the Bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I Picked."

Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had Picked the white one. And since the money-lender dared not admit his Dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into An extremely advantageous one.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Most complex problems do have a solution. It is only that we don't Attempt to think.

still waiting for Mercedes spare part

It is totally unacceptable that Mercedes Benz, the so called epitome of automotive technology, should keep the customer waiting for more than three weeks to get a replacement part. I mean, if it is a part that MUST be specially custom made for a one and only one vehicle, i may be able to understand that certain lead time is required; but this is a common part, something that is used in every other E200 W211 model.

I have posted a message at Mercedes website, but i guess i would be expecting way too much to get a reply from them.

Would I ever purchase another Mercedes Benz?

NO, NEVER.

Next Fishing Expedition, 16th Feb 2008

We have planned the next fishing trip to be a one night affair.

We will be fishing a a location known as the 'Russian Wreck' somewhere 2 hours off Penang Island. Apparently, the sunken vessel is not Russian at all, but a Japanese ship. For some reasons which i still do not know, people call it the Russian wreck. And the name stuck.

This trip will be mainly a bottom fishing event. Since we will be parked near or on top of the sunken vessel, there will be lots of snags, and jigging at such location is rather hazardous. So, the preferred fishing method is bottom fishing with a strong leader and a heavy weight to prevent the line from drifting too much.

This trip will be the curtain raiser for 2008, and hopefully, we will come back with a good catch. And thereafter, even better catches as the year goes on.

Happy Chinese New Year

Chinese worldwide will usher in the Year of the Rat comes 7th Feb 2008.

For some reason, rats are always portrayed as being crafty and not so trustworthy. There are so many Disney's movies with rats depicted as being creatures with shifty eyes, long whiskers and twitching noses.

Yet, there are cultures that venerate the rats. There is a temple in India where rats roam freely, given food, and even share food with the temple priests from the same plate. And there are deities devoted to rats.

I am not, for any instance, suggesting sharing your new year bounty with rats, but, do have a Happy New Year!!
